Mini Law School invites you to a free public lecture to talk about:
WHY THE OLAND CASE IS IMPORTANT
with author and professor Greg Marquis, University of New Brunswick
Richard Oland, a member of the family who owns Moosehead Breweries, was bludgeoned to death in his office in 2011. His son, Dennis, was arrested for the murder. The case received widespread attention because the search warrant information was released to the media before the arrest. After a lengthy trial, Dennis was convicted of second-degree murder. In October 2016, the conviction was quashed and a new trial was ordered. Professor Marquis, author of Truth and Honour: The Death of Richard Oland and the Trial of Dennis Oland, will discuss the investigation and trial, the challenges of writing a true crime book, and the importance of the Oland case – which, among other things, triggered a case at the Supreme Court of Canada.
This event is free and open to the public. Books will be available for purchase courtesy of Bookmark.
